Jailed Polish Journalist Started Hunger Strike

Polish journalist Klaudiusz Wesołek from Gdansk arrested April 19 started the famine strike in jail. He refuses to take solid food and consumes only drinks. He is protesting against the refusal to grant him the status of prisoner of consciousness.

He was accused of “violating law and peace in city hall”, the accusation stated that he was “trying to disrupt the meeting and was shouting at the head ot the council”. Klaudiuzs was denied to speak at the court proceedings and the court issued prescriptive sentence.

Kostiantyn Lukanov in court denied his previous confessions and did not admit himself guilty. However, it did not help him: he was executed immediately, the same day of the court hearing – on 10 April 1938
