Jailed Polish Journalist Started Hunger Strike

Polish journalist Klaudiusz Wesołek from Gdansk arrested April 19 started the famine strike in jail. He refuses to take solid food and consumes only drinks. He is protesting against the refusal to grant him the status of prisoner of consciousness.

He was accused of “violating law and peace in city hall”, the accusation stated that he was “trying to disrupt the meeting and was shouting at the head ot the council”. Klaudiuzs was denied to speak at the court proceedings and the court issued prescriptive sentence.

Since the mass demonstrations in Warsaw on April 10, I started monitoring Polish sources expecting something like our “Ukraine without Kuchma” action to start there.
I saw an amazing video. It is named “Illegal flowers”. On April 13 people  laid  yellow tulips on a pavement front of the president’s palace in memoriam of Maria Kaczynska, the wife of the killed president.

10 April 2011 Warsaw, Poland. Tens of Thousands of people commemorated the anniversary of death of then President Lech Kachinsky  and 95 people killed in plane crash in Russia a year ago. The demonstration tightly filled the square before the presidential palace and the long adjacent street and  turned into a very strong political statement against the Polish government and it’s pro-Russian politics.
