Askold S. Lozynskyj. Minsk 2

Feb 17th, 2015 | By

Hope springs eternal. In Ukrainian circles that cliché is no longer relevant when referring to Ukraine-Russia relations. Many in the West are still naive or, perhaps, idealistic enough to lend credence to promises made by Russian leaders or their henchman. However, the list of the believers is diminishing.

What is ‘Trilateral contact group’? It is a euphemism that allows ‘leaders’ of Russian terrorist organizations ‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’ to be included in negotiations with Ukraine. ‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’ officially claim responsibility for the war with Ukraine, working as cover for the full scale Russian military invasion. Ukraine officially does not have any top-level contacts with ‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’ and does recognize them as terrorist organizations. Official authorization of ex-president Leonid Kuchma to represent Ukraine in the peace talks has no mention of ‘LNR’ and ‘DNR’, for instance.

I do not consider the times of changes a curse as an ancient Chinese proverb says. These times provide a chance to unheard advances of human talent and of the countries these humans create. We have the chance to build the new country, friendly for its inhabitants, interesting for the world, open for friends and safeguarded against enemies. I know Ukraine will make a great use of this chance; the open question is when exactly? The systemic transformations should be implemented quickly; otherwise, reforms could take decades.

Wake Up, Europe by George Soros

And Europeans themselves need to take a close look at the new Ukraine. That could help them recapture the original spirit that led to the creation of the European Union. The European Union would save itself by saving Ukraine.

Oksana Bashuk Hepburn: Don’t believe the Putin lie, Canada

Oct 5th, 2014 | By

Let’s not allow a little man who rules without the oversight of a political opposition or independent media to fool us. He is a one-man horror show and as far-fetched as it may seem, Canadians beware: there are Russian-speakers in Canada whom Putin may wish to “liberate.” Or, there’s the Canadian Arctic he may wish to annex.
